Margaret is a Chartered Surveyor with over 25 years’ experience in central and local government and the private sector.
As Head of Estates, she has responsibility for ensuring that a level of quality is maintained in all the dealings and transactions her team of professional Chartered Surveyors undertake. Margaret describes herself as optimistic, pragmatic and a team player and enjoys the challenge of taking an instruction from a client, reading between the lines and then picking out the aspects of what needs to be done.
She joined the business in 1989, having spent five years in Estate Surveyor roles. She entered the industry at a time when it was predominantly male orientated. She had always liked geography and been interested in the environment and she wanted to study a degree in a subject that wouldn’t mean studying for a career afterwards. So, Margaret took her degree in Land Management at Reading University where out of the 120 students, 30 were female.
Career highlights include managing the sale of Belstead House in Ipswich and leading a sub team to carry out RICS Red Book valuations on 95 Suffolk County Council properties with a total value of £312 million; the resulting valuation report formed part of the council’s annual financial accounts.
