The Brief: We were selected to upgrade the main flat roof at Edgar Sewter School, with particular attention being paid to its thermal efficiency and roof finishes. The installation of sun pipes to a corridor, which was extremely dark and lacking natural light source, was also required.
The Scope: We were awarded the work due to our strong reputation and partnership working ability. The scope of work involved refurbishment and maintenance work. This required the finishes and insulation of the current flat roof to be stripped, followed by the installation of new insulation. It was important that the new insulation met the current regulation requirements. Once the new insulation was in place, next was the provision of new surface finishes to the entire roof. This included the installation of new sun pipes, connected to a dark circulation corridor in order to provide a natural source of light into the building.
Prior to the works bring complete, various areas of the roof required careful consideration. This was due to issues that were found, caused by the flat roof forming a link between various pitched roofs, resulting in ‘alcove’ areas, which proved difficult to insulate and dress with new roof finishes in order to achieve adequate upstands.
Our surveying team worked collaboratively and in partnership with the contractor to determine the most effective solutions in order for the refurbishment and maintenance works to be a success. We maintained a positive line of communication throughout the project with the client and this resulted in the successful delivery of project works.
The Result: Collaborative working and maintaining a high level of communications with the client, contractor and end user made this project a success. The project satisfied the original project brief, issues were controlled and, this left the client pleased with the end result.
