Mechanical Engineer


To deliver mechanical building services designs for the Concertus Group, engaging with other disciplines to ensure that fundamental building services principles drive building design and ensuring both the compliance and the quality of installations. To manage the compliance and quality of installations.


Team worker:

  • Work within an integrated M&E department consisting of CAD Technicians, Trainees, Engineers and Senior Engineers
  • Adopt a flexible working approach, utilising appropriate team resources and managing delegation to junior members of the team to support efficient delivery across the service
  • Mentor and develop junior team members
  • Take ownership for own personal development while working under the guidance of a Senior Mechanical Engineer


Customer service:

  • Represent the Concertus Group throughout the industry in a professional manner
  • Provide an efficient and business-like point of contact
  • Liaise with clients, developing the relevant aspect of their client briefs
  • Work collaboratively with other professionals and also with contractors and suppliers
  • Offer support and advice to clients, exceeding their expectations and delivering a first class service


Business delivery:

  • Design of heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems for both new and existing buildings
  • Production of design calculations, schematics and detailed specifications and drawings using design software and specification methods
  • Undertake site surveys, site visits and associated inspections according to standard project/industry procedures or as the project requires
  • Produce appropriate reports, drawings and specifications of compliant mechanical building services design including heating, ventilation, air conditioning and water services
  • Prepare design calculations on industry standard software
  • Produce industry standard tender packages, undertake analysis of tenders and monitor and manage cost, quality and timescales
  • Undertake appropriate site surveys, inspections and monitoring
  • Be an authority on mechanical design within the business
  • Adopt a proactive and leading approach within the business in the delivery of mechanical design for the Concertus Group
  • Commence key early engagement with other professions, ensuring fundamental building services principles drive building design
  • Manage the coordination of third party organisations and specialists design
  • Improve efficiencies by coordinating and utilising team resources, manage the delegation of appropriate work to junior members of the team and manage delivery of multiple projects simultaneously
  • Supervise junior members of the team on a day to day basis, supporting their development
  • Check the design information, calculations, drawings and specifications prepared by others
  • Ensure compliant mechanical design is and consistency of approach maintained across the Building Services team
  • Manage the review and development of standard details, specifications and general engineering documents
  • Have a key input on strategic design making and the direction of the Building Services team

It’s essential you have:

  • A HND or degree in an engineering related subject
  • At least five years’ experience in the profession, preferably in a consultancy practice or for a large contractor in a design capacity
  • Up to date knowledge of relevant Building Regulations and standards for mechanical installations
  • High level of technical skill
  • General knowledge in current design industry processes and procurement arrangements
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • An ability to work effectively under pressure managing the delivery of multiple projects
  • An ability to build good relationships with colleagues and work collaboratively with your team to achieve better outcomes for customers
