The Willows Primary School

The Brief:

The client wanted to increase capacity at the school from 315 to 420 pupils. Concertus was appointed as we had a good relationship with the school having undertaken work in other areas to remodel, extend and refurbish the building.

The Scope:

As part of its multi-disciplinary approach, we were asked to put forward several options on how the school could increase capacity. It was decided to go with the proposal to build four new classrooms and a toilet area in a disused area of the school that had formerly been a playground.

In addition to the new build, construction work included remodelling an existing classroom, so that it became a specialist classroom and circulation area, which also provided a link to the new extension.

Due to the great relationship between the project team and the school, and as a goodwill gesture, staff at Concertus and Morgan Sindall gave up some of their time to clean up and improve the nature reserve and pond area that desperately needed some tender loving care.

The Result:

The work, which was completed early and below budget, has increased the number of classrooms to 14. All construction work was carried out with the minimum of disruption to the school and it’s teaching activities. Also, as the project came in under budget, we were commissioned to do some additional work improving the space around the northern playground.
