Sybil Andrews Academy on Bury St Edmunds’ Moreton Hall estate was expected to be ready for students in January, but the building will now be open within a matter of weeks after the project team officially handed over the building to Suffolk County Council.
Andy Prestoe, headteacher of Sybil Andrews Academy, which is part of the successful Samuel Ward Academy Trust, said he was delighted work on the main school building had been completed with staff now preparing the classrooms ahead of students moving in.
Mr Prestoe said: “We would like to thank everyone who has played their part in this state-of-the-art school.”
Gordon Jones, cabinet member for children’s services, education & skills at Suffolk County Council, said he was delighted that the first phase of development was handed over to Suffolk County Council ahead of schedule.
He added: “This has been a highly complex project involving a number of partners and we are extremely pleased with the end result.”
Jon Ward, vice-chairman of Samuel Ward Academy Trust, said: “It is clear that the contractor teams have been proud to undertake such a task and the work completed to date is excellent with high quality resources being evident.
“Phase two will provide fantastic sporting facilities and these are well ahead of schedule. It will be a great community asset being delivered by exceptional people.”
