Concertus Design & Property Consultants are delighted to have been appointed by Central Bedfordshire Council to build the new Houstone School in Houghton Regis.

Built on the Kingsland Campus, the site will become home to a new three-storey secondary school, a separate sports hall, an all-weather pitch, standard pitches for outdoor sports, and a new car park.

The school will be built as a 900 place Secondary School and a 220 place Sixth Form. With growing numbers projected over the coming years due to the increase in housing developments in the area.

Darren Fellowes, Associate Director at Concertus Design & Property Consultants Ltd, said: “We are thrilled to be working with Central Bedfordshire Council on the new secondary school and sixth form in Houghton Regis. Houstone School, located on the Kingsland Campus, will aim to provide an inspiring and sustainable educational building for 1,120 pupils which will allow for a high-quality educational setting – providing a flexible state-of-the-art teaching environment. The design for the school has incorporated many of the sustainability ‘principles’ from the Department for Education and Central Bedfordshire Council’s sustainability aspirations for the future of school design, delivering a cost-effective and resource-efficient school.”

Work is currently progressing well on site. The masonry façades for the Teaching Block and Sports Block are now complete, with the final external cladding envelope progressing in the coming weeks. Internally, the first fix MEP is nearing completion and all the stairwells, lifts, and partitions are now complete. Externally, the playing field Archaeological works are complete resulting in the pitches nearing completion. The all-weather pitches, swales, and access routes have started to gather pace in readiness for completion.

Houstone School will be the first new secondary school that Central Bedfordshire Council has built-in Houghton Regis and will replace the existing Houghton Regis Academy.
